The EdgeBio informatics team is comprised of PhD and MS level bioinformaticians and software engineers and is lead by Justin H. Johnson. Justin is a proven and highly competent engineer, biotechnology manager, and entrepreneur with over 8 years experience in providing intuitive project management, professional leadership, and deep technical understanding on a wide variety of biotechnology and bioinformatics based projects. Before joining EdgeBio Justin was a Bioinformatics Manager at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI). His primary responsibility was managing engineering staff as it relates to the development and oversight of bioinformatics pipelines and high throughput data services for the JCVI biotechnology core. His research interests include:

• Analysis and implementation of pipelines for next generation sequencing platforms including 454, Illumina and SOLiD.
• Leveraging cloud and other HPC techniques to cost effectively support large scale scientific computing.
• Introduction of sequence analysis tools to provide methods and infrastructure that will shorten the time from experiment to results.
• Mentoring and support of junior engineers.
• Progressive use of social media for the outreach, education, and integration of projects and teams and engagement of research community.
