EdgeBio and Ion Torrent

EdgeBio took receipt of our first Ion Torrent in mid February.  I was amazed at the streamlined deployment process - we were up and running by March 1.  To date we have run 31 of those fun little 2 hour runs.  Having been through this deployment and validation experience at the Venter Institute for Roche 454, Illumina, and SOLiD sequencers, I can say this was a very positive experience comparatively.  The Ion team seems to have learned from the ghosts of the past.  A combination of the simplicity of the machine itself and the fact that the data sets are small compared to other second generation machines, as well as having a data type (flow space sff and bases pace fastq files)  also contributed to this quick deployment and validation.
