Matthew Lorence, EVP Marketing and Sales

Matt has more than 20 years of experience in the molecular diagnostic, genomics, and life science tools industries, from start-up to highly-matrixed organizations, with a track record of growing existing businesses, building new businesses, and developing strategies to enter new markets. He has extensive experience in genomic technologies, including NGS and Sanger sequencing, RT-PCR, and microarrays, with broad knowledge of the CLIA regulations related to the development of LDTs based on these technologies.  He earned his AB in Genetics and Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley, and his PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas. As an NIH postdoctoral fellow in the Green Center for Reproductive Biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Dr. Lorence earned his MBA with concentrations in Marketing and Business Strategy from the Jindal School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. Prior to Edge Biosystems, he served as Senior Vice-President of Marketing and Business Development for TessArae, LLC, a privately held molecular diagnostics firm developing targeted sequencing-based assays for the infectious disease and human genetic disease testing markets. Prior to joining TessArae, Dr. Lorence was Associate Director of Business Development for biodefense, infectious disease, and all other microbiology applications at Affymetrix, responsible for developing new market opportunities in these fields. Prior to joining Affymetrix, he was Senior Product Line Manager at Applied Biosystems, and was responsible for developing DNA sequencing-based products for the identification of microbial contamination in the pharmaceutical manufacturing market, and for the detection of foodborne and biothreat agents using TaqMan-based assays, as well as leading the collaboration with Cepheid to provide biothreat pathogen detection consumables to the US Postal Service. He began his career at Bio-Rad Laboratories, holding several product marketing positions in the Genetic Systems Division, and was responsible for managing the molecular biology products, including a pulsed field gel electrophoresis system for epidemiological analysis of foodborne pathogens by the CDC.He has authored 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and given technical and commercial presentations at numerous international conferences and symposia.
